Why develop the iCARe® range?

Anticipating increasing demand for electrical steels

Impetus for a shift to electric vehicles (EV):

  • Transportation is a key contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Regulations to limit emissions during the use phase of a vehicle’s life are being tightened and will become stricter.
  • Within the EU strict fleet-emission targets have been set. Financial penalties will be applied to manufacturers who fail to achieve these targets.

Why develop electrical steels?

To lower fleet-level emissions, automotive manufacturers must develop more vehicles powered by electric motors which:

  • Produce few harmful emissions during use
  • Meet most environmental targets

Consumer interest in electric vehicles will increase when more charging stations and more affordable electrical vehicles will be available.

Improvements in battery technology and needed infrastructure are likely to lead to increased demand for electric vehicles.

Efficient electrical steels contribute to cost savings for carmakers, and longer range and lower ownership cost for users.

Goal is to meet anticipated demand for electric vehicles by 2015 when stricter EU emissions regulations come into force. Further international regulations will push the sales of electric vehicles by 2020.
