As the leading steel supplier to the world’s automotive industry, ArcelorMittal is constantly researching new automotive steels and steel solutions. Our goal is to ensure sustainable mobility for the future.
As part of the WorldAutoSteel consortium, ArcelorMittal has been actively involved in the Future Steel Vehicle (FSV) project. Launched in 2007, FSV aimed to develop cleansheet designs for the electric vehicles that will enter the market from 2020 onwards.
ArcelorMittal global team of automotive engineers and researchers were actively involved in FSV. Thanks to ArcelorMittal’s ongoing research and expertise, the FSV team were able to consider the use of advanced high strength steels that will not be commercially available until 2015 and beyond.
FSV was completed in 2010 and demonstrated that impressive weight savings are possible when advanced steels are utilised in combination with new designs for electric vehicles.
