Advanced projects and Co-engineering

For ArcelorMittal, innovation means developing new ways to create value by meeting customer and market needs. This applies to all areas of its business. We propose new ways of working not just for, but also alongside our customers. This cooperation continues throughout the entire development of a vehicle

ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks can provide you with a comparison analysis between reference and tailor welded blanks in terms of:

  • Deformation
  • Stress
  • Intrusion depth
  • Fatigue resistance
  • Others

Risk removal and characterization

ArcelorMittal experts can study applications and then prepare a design study by risk removal and characterization in a first step (see Feasibility Studies).

Design support

Specialized software used by ArcelorMittal allows to take into account at an early stage the characteristics of each application and the manufacturing constraints. Generally, several different solutions are proposed to the customer together with in-service behavior analysis (crash, stiffness, etc.), stamping, weight and cost estimations of the different solutions proposed.

Other specific design studies for tailored blanks

With the CAD data of the finished part and data of the stamping tools, the ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks team can supply:

  • Development of the minimum blank shape for stamping
  • Validation that welds are located in non-critical zones
  • Complete stamping simulation to validate blank shape and keep costly prototyping to a minimum
  • Quick feasibility analysis and risk removal study Detailed analysis
  • Zones of thinning and thickening
  • Strain fields
  • Minimum blank dimensions and optimized tailor welded blanks
  • Tailor welded blanks definition after tailor welded blanks optimization
  • Body in white (BIW) reviews
