Bamesa Tanger celebrates its first year of operation

In its first year, Bamesa Tanger – a joint-venture between ArcelorMittal and Bamesa – has delivered 50,000 tonnes of automotive steel to Renault Tanger's local tier-1 subcontractors and has processed another 2,000 tonnes for Renault Tanger. This state-of-the-art steel service centre (SSC) has helped our customers to strongly reduce their stocks, improve the efficiency and quality of their operations and avoid costly shutdowns.

Bamesa Tanger was inaugurated on 28 April 2014 by Mohammed Yacoubi, Wali of the Tanger-Tétouan district, in the presence of Jean-Martin Van der Hoeven, Chief Marketing Officer ArcelorMittal Europe - Flat Products, and Alejandro Quintanilla, Bamesa Board Member. "The opening of a new SSC in Tangier demonstrates ArcelorMittal's strong commitment to support the development strategy of its automotive customers in any countries they are moving to", said Jean-Martin Van der Hoeven at the inauguration ceremony.

Pablo Pelaez, Managing Director of Bamesa Tanger, held a speech at the fourth biennial Tangier Automotive Meeting organised by AMICA (the Moroccan Association for Automotive Industry and Trade) in October 2014. Pablo Pelaez had a positive message: "I have good reason to be optimistic: many actors of the automotive industry are expected to open installations in this area in the coming years and those already present have been awarded new markets." Substantial new investments were announced at this biennial meeting and the presence of numerous local and international market players confirmed the importance and the potential of the growing automotive industry in Morocco.
