In the first of a two-part series, Carl de Maré, head of technology strategy at ArcelorMittal explains steel’s role in creating a low-carbon, circular economy that works for everyone.

  • Good crash performance thanks to the work hardening capability of AHSS grades
  • Very good formability of Fortiform® grade provides high performance on curled edges and possibilities for complex designs (‘SF’ indicates the material’s good stretch flangeability)
  • AHSS grades are interesting for applications requiring hole expansion: important for tube integration and part connection

Zagnelis® coatings have been specially designed to add a stage in vehicle corrosion protection, while meeting vehicle manufacturers' specifications: drawing, welding properties etc. In particular, they offer corrosion resistance far superior to that provided by traditional zinc-based coatings. The presence of magnesium in the coating promotes the formation of compact corrosion products highly stable over time, thereby substantially reducing coating consumption dynamics and enhancing edge protection.

Zagnelis® coatings also offer excellent drawability performance due to outstanding tribological properties for a zinc-based coating.

ArcelorMittal is transforming the auto industry from the inside out. ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading steel and mining company, is continually developing lightweight steel solutions that make vehicles lighter, safer and more sustainable.

In this fourth episode of a series of videos about breakthrough applications of laser welded blanks Jessé Paegle, Head of Product & Solution Development at ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks, shows how the Multi Part Integration (MPI) concept applies to the Double Door Ring, the biggest part of a car structure. MPI radically simplifies the vehicle production process by reducing the number of operations, leading to significant sustainability gains and potential cost savings.

ArcelorMittal has once again been recognised by CDP for its strong performance in corporate transparency and action on climate change. ArcelorMittal successfully retained its A- score in the 2020 CDP Climate Change assessment, putting the company within the top quartile of all metal smelting, refining and forming companies and the top 10% of the steel industry.

ArcelorMittal has achieved ResponsibleSteel site certification in Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. The company’s steelmaking sites in ArcelorMittal Belgium (Geel, Genk, Gent and Liège), Luxembourg (Belval, Differdange and Rodange) and Germany (Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt) are the first steel plants globally to be independently audited and found to meet the standards required for ResponsibleSteel, the industry’s first global multi-stakeholder standard and certification initiative.

ArcelorMittal’s iCARe® 420 Save combines low losses with improved and guaranteed yield strength, resulting in an increase in the power density and energy efficiency of electric traction motors.

PSA award recognises the value ArcelorMittal adds to the partnership. Both companies work together to create the vehicles of the future with the next generation of steel solutions.

In 2001, Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) began to produce its Yaris model for the European market at a brand-new plant in Valenciennes (France). To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the plant’s opening, TMMF has joined with local partners such as ArcelorMittal Automotive Europe to celebrate the anniversary.

Carmakers can select the most suitable innovative steel coatings from ArcelorMittal’s wide global offer to meet their quality and cost challenges. This webinar details ArcelorMittal coatings offer for cold stamping, presenting various steel coatings, their properties, advantages and typical applications.
