Preparing for the electric vehicle challenge

Improvements at ArcelorMittal St-Chély d’Apcher

Our new continuous annealing line at St-Chély d’Apcher (France) represents a €90 million commitment by ArcelorMittal to the development of breakthrough electrical steels.

With its high level of performance, the line will enable us to meet the demands of emerging and highly technical products and those of our existing electrical steel clients.

The key technology behind the new annealing line is its state-of-the-art furnace. Combined with precision control systems, the new furnace enables us to optimise the structure, texture and surface state.

The new line will enable us to further improve the magnetic, mechanical and shape performance of our fully processed steels.

Key figures for the new line at St-Chély d’Apcher:

  • Design capacity: 120 kT/year, expandable to 250 kT/year to meet future demand
  • Line speed: up to 180 m/minute
  • Maximum coil weight: 32 tonnes
  • Thickness range: 0.2 to 1.5 mm
  • Maximum width: 1,300 mm
  • Coating (organic/inorganic) thickness: 1 to 15 µm
