ArcelorMittal was present at the 2019 Automotive Engineering Expo (AEE) from 4-5 June 2019 in Nuremberg (Germany). Over the two days of the fair, we welcomed more than 50 visitors including leading body-in-white designers, influencers, and decision makers. Most of the OEMs were also present and visited our booth.
The booth featured examples examples of our laser welded blank technology, press hardenable steels (PHS), Fortiform® ultra high strength steels (UHSS) and our iCARe® range of electrical steels for automotive. While our PHS and LWB offers attracted the most interest, we also had a lot of questions about our 3rd generation advanced high strength steels and our solutions for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Many visitors also tried our new global automotive product app which was on display.
Another exhibit on the stand showed examples of ArcelorMittal’s Ablation 2.0 technology. The technology is used to partially ablate weld zones on PHS steels. This prevents aluminium pollution of the weld which can affect the performance of a laser welded blank.
Ablation 2.0 was also the subject of a paper by Ivan Viaux, tailored blanks solution manager for ArcelorMittal Global R&D – Automotive Applications. The paper demonstrates how Ablation 2.0 technology can be used to optimize the strength and long-term durability of laser welded blanks.
ArcelorMittal’s booth was crowded throughout the two days, keeping everyone very busy. We were able to offer our visitors good coffee in steel cups (no single-use plastic on our booth, only sustainable materials) and cookies.
