Meet our global resident engineers

ArcelorMittal’s Resident Engineer program was an industry first and it continues to build deep and lasting relationships with carmakers. Our resident engineers are embedded in global customer teams. Together they work with automakers to incorporate ArcelorMittal’s latest advanced steel grades, coatings, and technologies into their designs.

ArcelorMittal’s long history of collaboration with the automotive industry means that we understand what it takes to add value at every stage of production. And, thanks to our in-depth knowledge of steel’s potential, the results of this collaboration are uniquely innovative.

Initially, resident engineers provided customized engineering support to vehicle manufacturers. However, their role has grown significantly. Today they are the in-house steel experts for carmakers. “The resident engineer is the technical entry point for each OEM in terms of advanced engineering, product promotion, steel solutions, and partnerships,” notes Jean-Luc Thirion, head of the Automotive portfolio at Global R&D. “Resident engineers are our voice in the internal debate carmakers have when designing new cars. Thanks to them, our customers know how to make use of our latest advanced steel products and solutions to make cars lighter and safer at the most affordable cost.”
