Chrysler’s all-new Pacifica is among the safest utility vehicles on North American roads thanks to its extensive use of advanced steels (72% of the body structure). The vehicle also features ArcelorMittal’s S-in motion® five-piece laser-welded door ring.
After 36 months, 2,000 engineering hours, and approximately 300 design iterations, the team agreed on one central concept – the world’s first five-piece hot-stamped laser-welded door ring and B-pillar. Using Usibor® 1500 and Ductibor® 500, the co-engineering approach between Chrysler and ArcelorMittal helped to reduce the weight of the door ring by 10 kilograms.
The use of advanced steels and the five-piece door ring lead to a 113-kilogram (250 lb) weight reduction compared to the previous model. The Chrysler Pacifica is the lightest minivan on the road and the only one to earn the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) five-star safety rating.
The Chrysler Pacifica was recognized as the 2017 North American Utility of the Year.
