ArcelorMittal Multi Part Integration™ (MPI) has been used in a successful trial of breakthrough technology for the automotive industry. Working in partnership VAMA, GONVAMA and car manufacturer Voyah have announced the successful development of a new product for the lower car body – the hot stamped laser welded H-Frame. The announcement was made at the 2021-2022 International Automotive Lightweight Conference in Yangzhou, China.
The H-frame is one of several applications of the ArcelorMittal Multi Part Integration™ (MPI) solution – which creates integrated car parts using pressed hardened steel (PHS), hot stamping laser welded technology and patches. Meaning fewer parts are needed during the manufacturing process. The Voyah hot stamping laser welded H-frame turns more than 10 parts into two. Material utilisation is increased by 24% and the weight of the part is reduced to 84% of the original weight.
This exciting breakthrough technology brings environmental and cost benefits. Using fewer parts also means reductions in weight and reduction in the complexity of build.
