In this video, you will learn how the partial ablation process is used by ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks to reduce and control aluminum pollution induced by the aluminum-silicon (AlSi) coating to meet the requirements of car manufacturers. Developed by ArcelorMittal’s Global R&D team, the partial ablation process removes a very narrow strip of the AlSi coating on the top and bottom edges of the blank. This ensures that the level of aluminum in the weld remains below the threshold. In this video we introduce "Ablation 2.0", a new process that ablates the coating and welds sub-blanks in a single operation making Laser Welded Blanks (LWB) for hot stamping even more attractive for OEMs.
