The increasing trend towards global platforms sees vehicles designed centrally and produced to the same specifications locally around the world. To be successful, global platforms require the same materials to be available locally in all regions.
The automotive focused and flexible organization benefits from industrial resources based in Western and Eastern Europe, North and South America and South Africa. This industrial network is also sized to deliver associates markets like Argentina, Mexico, Middle East and Russia. It is completed with joint ventures and alliances in China, Japan and Turkey.

Cutting weight to reduce emissions
Increasing regulations require OEMs to reduce vehicle weight to cut emissions while improving crash performance and passenger safety. ArcelorMittal’s technological expertise means that we have the advanced high strength steels (AHSS) and solutions OEMs need to achieve these targets.
We continue to invest in our dedicated automotive R&D facilities around the world to ensure that our customers have the steels and solutions they need to create the safe and environmentally friendly mobility solutions of tomorrow.
Emergence of new vehicle types and mobility models
ArcelorMittal is already researching how steel can answer the challenges presented by the emergence of global automotive trends such as electric, connected and self-driving vehicles . For example, ArcelorMittal has developed S-in motion® studies which show how steel can improve the performance and safety of electric vehicles. We’re constantly examining how steel can contribute to the design of battery electric vehicles (BEV) and self-driving vehicles while keeping passengers safe.
At the same time we are committed to further decarbonisation, deploying proven technologies to reduce emissions.
